Timeline of terror in Mardan

PESHAWAR – Mardan, considered a sensitive and important military centre, has been under terrorist attacks for the last several years. The Punjab Regiment Centre (PRC), commonly used for training recruits, was the latest target of militants.
Another sub-training camp of PRC at Dargai Malakand had also been a target in 2006. On September 3, 2010, a suicide attack in Mardan killed at least one person. On June 5, 2009, a roadside bomb ripped through a security force convoy, killing five policemen and an army officer in Mardan.
On October 31, 2008, eight people, including four policemen were killed and several others were injured when a suicide attacker targeted a convoy of the Mardan DIG. The DIG had escaped unhurt. On May 19, 2008, 13 people, including four security personnel, were killed and 22 others injured in a suicide blast in a bakery in PRC market of Cantonment area of Mardan.
On April 24, 2008, a powerful bomb blast near a police station in Mardan had killed at least three people and injured over 35. The bomb was reportedly placed in a car parked in a market near the police station.
