Rear Admiral Sayyid Khawar Ali has been promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral with immediate effect. Khawar joined Pakistan Navy in 1972 in the Operations Branch, according to a Navy statement. His major appointments in the past include Commander Air at PNS Mehran Karachi, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Plans), Naval Secretary, Commander Naval Aviation, Director General Joint Warfare and Training at the Joint Staff HQ, and Commander Karachi. The Flag Officer has been serving as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Training and Evaluation) at the Naval Headquarters Islamabad.
