The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Tuesday, while hearing a petition filed by Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed for stopping drone attacks, asked the government to present copies of world treaties on basic human rights in the court on the next hearing.
The LHC chief justice, in his remarks, said the constitution of Pakistan provides protection to the basic rights of citizens. He said the drone attacks is a very critical problem and against the country’s sovereignty. “I am personally very upset with the drone attacks, but being custodians of the law, we will have to set aside personal sentiments and search a solution for the problem within the limits of the law,” he remarked. AK Dogar, lawyer of Hafiz Saeed, told the court that according to statistics, 176 children have been killed so far in the deadly drone attacks in Pakistan in which the bodies of the young victims were badly mutilated. AK Dogar further contended that the drone victims are being ignored by the government, while every bearded person is suspected as a terrorist. The LHC chief justice stressed that there is an urgent need to solve the issue of drone attacks. He asked the government to present copies of world treaties on basic human rights in the court on the next hearing scheduled for Nov 1.
After the hearing in the court, AK Dogar told the media that the hands of US were soaked in the blood of 176 innocent children and the court has been informed about the facts and figures in this regard.
A large number of activists of JuD were present in the premises of the court during the hearing.
