Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday said the government agreed to write a letter to the Swiss authorities after its reservations were duly addressed. “The letter was finalised per the court’s directions and the issue is now over,” he told a private television channel. He said the president enjoyed immunity from prosecution under the constitution of Pakistan and international laws hence he could not be tried. Kaira said the federal government’s stance over writing the letter in the tenure of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was also correct.
Criticising those political leaders who were supporting extremists for their vested interests, Kaira said the attack on Malala Yousufzai had drawn a line between extremist and progressive thinking in the society. Kaira said the leaders and workers of the PPP and the Awami National Party (ANP) had rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism. “It is unfortunate that leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz just condemned the incident and did not say a word against the Taliban.”
I am sure the forgiving Pakistani public will be delighted if the huge amount of money stolen from Pakistan sitting in Swiss accounts earning other countries interest be returned to Pakistan to help pay off foreign debt. PPP do the right thing & you may be elected again for this good will gesture.
