Police on Friday arrested four suspected militants, including a woman and the alleged mastermind of the attack on Malala Yousafzai, as doctors said the next 36 to 48 hours were critical for the teenage education activist.
Sources told Pakistan Today that the police had detained a large number of suspects in connection with the incident. While some have been freed, around 40 are still in police custody for interrogation, sources said. The suspects include Attaullah, the alleged mastermind of the attack, they added.
Police high-ups in Swat and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain seemed reluctant to make comments on the status of Attaullah. However, some police officers confirmed that Attaullah was amongst the arrested persons. On the other hand, a military spokesman said the next 36-48 hours were critical for the teenage terror victim. “According to neurosurgeons and intensive care specialists, Malala Yousafzai’s health is satisfactory but the next 36 to 48 hours are critical,” Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa, director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations, said while briefing reporters at the Armed Forces’ Institute of Cardiology (AFIC).
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari telephoned Malala’s father to enquire about the condition of his 14-year-old daughter. He prayed for Malala’s early recovery and said that the prayers of the whole nation were with her. In addition, a delegation of political parties led by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf visited the AFIC to sympathise with the brave teenage girl. Also, special prayers were held across the country for the early recovery of the young girl who has become an icon of education in Pakistan and across the world.

  1. It is shameful & Ironic that on many an occasion when these scum have been caught they have been freed even after admiting blatently to murdering innocent people, because the Police have received a phone call from another higher agency like the ISI to release them. It is the rule of fear in Pakistan, in this extremely highlighted case why don't the Judiciary make a stance and an example of these scums by hanging them in public. You bet your life they will be laughing in the courts & threatening the Judges, whilst admiting to their dispicible crimes.

    • No Pakistani agency can ever order the freedom of culprits like those who hit Malala. But I feel you are some paid agent of some foreign agency who is trying to stick the name of ISI or any other national agency with it. These Pakistani agencies are our true patriots and we all owe our independence to them. Otherwise we would have been either Iraq, Tunisia, Syria or Afghanistan. Stop blaming those who are working for this great Pakistan

  2. The whole nation has gone mad over Malala issue. The other day almost 80 girls were killed in drone attack in Wazirstan. The whole media has kept mum. Every day dozens of people are killed in Karachi and Balochistan, no one bothers. There were others who were attacked/injured no knows their fate. Malala says Obama is her leader, the western media is over crying on this issue, and our media is following the same tone.

    • Hello correct yourself not 80 children but 80 dreaded terrorists who wants to impose their own version on islam on others.

  3. Malala killing is just sign of lawlessness which is dominant in all parts of Pakistan where many like her killed or hurt on daily bases but this case is being projected for getting nation sympathies on one platform. In coming days it will clear to all but people are closely monitoring situation other than medical updates of ISPR about poor little Malala. http://www.saach.tv/2012/10/13/malala-aur-shumali

  4. Taliban needs to eradicated fully and given death sentences. They don't need to live on this earth. They are barbaric and sub humans / devils.
