LAHORE – Rubbishing rumours about groupings in the team, vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq has said that all players are united, with their focus on the World Cup. “Winning against New Zealand in the Test series and then in the ODI series has helped the team lift its morale before the World Cup,” Misbah told reporters on his return from New Zealand.
Pakistan lost the Twenty20 series during New Zealand tour, but bounced back strongly and managed to clinch the Test and ODI series against the hosts to end the marathon 45-day tour on a high note. The middle order batsman, who spearheaded the team in the Test series, said that the team badly needed a series triumph to boost their morale ahead of the World Cup. He further said that the team is fully united and dismissed rumours of a rift among players over the captaincy row.
“The team is united and we all played as a single unit in New Zealand. There was no grouping, not the on the captaincy issue and not on anything else,” he stressed. “I am enjoying my good form. I will try my level best to perform well in the World Cup as well,” he added. Former skipper Younis Khan has said that he is hopeful about Pakistan’s prospects in the World Cup because the team is in high spirits after an impressive series triumph against New Zealand.
“The team played well in New Zealand and I feel that if the team manages to replicate this performance in the World Cup, then we have a good chance of doing well,” he said. Pacer Umer Gul agreed that the team is in high spirits after their Test and ODI series victories, which put them among the top contenders for the World Cup.
