LAHORE – Medium-pacer Sohail Tanvir was dropped from Pakistan’s World Cup squad after being declared unfit by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday. Sohail Tanvir is being replaced with Junaid Khan.
PCB medical team, comprising Faisal Hayat, Dr Sohail Salim and Dr Riaz Ahmed, discussed Sohail’s fitness in light of input received from the team management after the team returns from New Zealand. During the tour, it was observed that quick movements and pickup with weight on the operated knee hindered his mobility and required him to take a few steps to balance himself before throwing.
The medical team and team management have opined that Sohail still requires time to attain complete fitness before he can compete at the international level. Keeping in view the medical team’s recommendation, PCB sent Junaid Khan’s name to ICC’s Technical Committee for approval as replacement for Sohail Tanvir. ICC has approved this request.
