ISLAMABAD – Six parliamentarians owe SR 182,000 to the Pakistan House, Mecca, the monitoring and implementation committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was informed on Wednesday.
With Yasmeen Rehman in the chair, the committee was also informed by audit officials that SR 155,000 were outstanding against Syed Khurshid Shah while SR 6600 were outstanding against Malik Farid Ullah, Attaur Rehman and Rana Nazir Ahmed, SR 3200 against Basheer Virk and SR 8800 from Fida Muhammad Khan for their stay in the Pakistan House during 1996 to 1999.
The high-ups of the ministry of religious affairs told the committee that the parliamentarians had said that they had paid the outstanding amount to the personal secretary of former religious affairs minister Syed Khurshid Shah. “We cannot verify their claim as the said secretary has expired,” they further told the committee. The PAC’s special committee directed all parliamentarians to present record of payments before Public Accounts Committee.
The officials of the ministry informed the committee that Saudi prince owned buildings within 2 kilometers of Haram Sharif and he wanted to rent them out to Pakistan SR 3300 per building but the ministry of religious affairs wanted to hire the buildings at a cheaper cost.
