SHARP organises training on human rights

The Society for Human Rights and Prisoner’s Aid (SHARP) on Friday organized a one day raining workshop on the topic of the role of Pakistani legislation in protecting human, refugee and women rights.
The purpose of the event was to give common understanding of human, refugee and women rights with their protection in the legislation. The event was inaugurated by SHARP director Irfan Rzaz, and in his inaugural remarks, he said that SHARP is working for the vulnerable segment of the society with the mission to strive for a human rights friendly Pakistan.
National School of Public Policy (NSPP) director Afzal Khayial gave a lecture on human and fundamental rights enshrined in Constitution of Pakistan, 1973 and their implementation in Pakistan. He explained that the fundamental rights are the basic human rights for all mankind, irrespective of their age, sex, race, religion, nationality, color and social or political opinion.
Pakistan Association of Cognitive Therapist Vice President Mirrat Gul highlighted the social issues of women and their protection in legal system of Pakistan. Mr Khalid Mehmmod shed light on the notifications issued by the Government of Pakistan for the facilitation and welfare of registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
APG Punjab Prosecution Department Abdul Samad shared his views that the present laws in Pakistan for Refugees are insufficient and stressed the need of amendment in these laws. Deputy Attorney General Naveed Innyat Malik stressed the need of equal protection of law and availability of justice to all human beings.
Advisor to the chief minister and chief guest at the event Zakia Shah Nawaz appreciated and congratulated the efforts of SHARP for organizing the informative event for lawyers. She emphasized on lawyers to realize their responsibilities regarding implementation of human rights in courts.
