Daska will celebrate Faiz’s 100th anniversary

DASKA – Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s 100th birth anniversary will be celebrated internationally on February 13 as he was born on that date in 1911 in Kila Kader village in Sialkot. Different events will be held in Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur and Sialkot in this regard. Faiz is known to be one of the most prolific poets of the 20th century.
Dubbing the voice of a revolution, he extended an asylum of sorts to the masses in a period where freedom of speech was crushed to a bare minimum. He graduated from the Government College University Lahore and obtained a degree in English Literature. He also did his masters in Arabic Literature at the Oriental College Lahore.
His tenure boasted several accomplishments, including the publication of two books, Mairay Dil Mairay Musafir and Ghubar-e-Ayyam which have been translated into several other languages, earning him international recognition for his works.
He wrote several inspirational pieces in both poetry and prose and became the first Asian poet to be awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1963. He was also nominated for the Nobel Prize.
RESCUE 1122 saves four LABOURERS: Sialkot Rescue 1122’s water rescue team responded to a call for help from Randheer Morre that four labourers had been trapped in an excavator due to a sudden rise of water level in the River Chenab. Water rescuers, Muhammad Waqas, Muhammad Waseem Abbas, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Zubair and Nasir Jamal, in the command of Muhammad Asad, reached the spot and, after an operation of one hour, they rescued Abdur Rahman, Shahzad, Nadeem and Tahir.
The people in the area and relatives of the trapped men appreciated the Rescue 1122 and offered Rs 10,000 as a prize, but they refused to accept it, saying it was their professional duty.
