Thousands of people took part in a peaceful protest rally organized by the religious parties here on Saturday against anti Islam film that has sparked strong resentment across Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah.
The protest was jointly organized by Jamaat Ahle Sunnat, Sunni Itehad Council Sunni Rahbar Council and other organizations which started from Namaish o M.A. Jinnah Road and turned into a major public meeting at Tibet center. A large number of seminary students participated while people from all parts of the city reached the venue of the meeting.
Chanting “Down with America” and demanding expulsion of the U.S. ambassador, the participants were addressed by prominent religious leaders including Mufti Muneebur Rehman Maulana Owais Noorani, Maulana Sarwat Ijaz Qadri and others. They demanded stern punishment for the filmmaker but asked the protesters to remain peaceful.
They sad that no one can be allowed to commit sins in the name of freedom of expression. They said there is lot of resentment against the sacrilegious film.
Mufti Munibur Rehman demanded an international legislation for action against those who try to enrage the sentiments of people of any religion. He said Muslims are a peaceful nation and protest is their right. He asked the Muslim rulers to strongly raise the issue and represent the aspirations of the people.
The speakers also called on the UN to play its role for entire faith harmony.
After the address, the participants of Tahafiz-e-Namoos Rally dispersed peacefully.
The Provincial government has banned all sorts of meetings and rallies as well as display of arms but on the assurance of the Sunni parties, the provincial allowed them to take out the rally up-to Tibet center.

      • Get over it. Mr Abbasi. You are not protecting faith but bringing out the negativity of your thought-process. It was fragmented event and should be over now Mr. Street Politics.

        • If you mean that we must concentrate on our development to get rid of our plight by working hard. Yes I agreed. But if you mean that we give up giving importance to our love and affection to Islam and leave everything happening in Wast unnoticed it is impossible. Burger generation did nothing for Pakistan. Read the history from Quaid to Iqbal to Abdul Qadeer Khan. They were common people sticked with religion and ideas and delivered maximum. I hate violence and extremism not only as fashion like burger creed but only on idealogical basis.

      • For a muslim the most important thing you can do is practice your faith and keep it between you and your maker, stop beating the drum for the world to see.People will talk, people will disagree, people will make fun, that does'nt change anything.Making an a*s**s** out of yourself and your country will.By the way,how exactly do you protect your faith?

There would always be some who would not 'grow up' or 'get over it'.

  1. a civilized nation will try to improve fire codes for their factories and improve the cleanliness of their streets and school and railway stations rather than these dramas

  2. If the number of hours wasted on these protests were converted into more work hours to improve the fire codes of the factories and start new businesses (rather than destroying them) so that more people could have had decent living, I think Pakistan would have shown to the world that they know how to channel their anger into constructive activities and they are not some dark age followers of a religion that they cannot think clearly about what is helpful and what is self destructive. Pakistan has definitely shown, from all the leaders who called for protests to the anchors on tv shows to the common people that this nation is stuck in mental darkness!

  3. can some one have the courage that the solution to problems of muslim world is not more islam but less islam. Why an extremist Muslim becomes more violent rather than more peaceful, if islam is really a religion of peace?

    • can someone tell these protesters that Americans may also find the Pakistani Sharia laws offensive and remnants of dark age, but their president does not ask UN to tell Pakistan to change its stone age laws that offend civilized world..
