Illiteracy presents a daunting challenge to development: PM

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that Pakistan’s youth is an asset and we must invest in them if we want to really achieve progress.
He was speaking as chief guest the 152nd Founders Day of the Lawrence College Ghora Gali in Murree on Thursday afternoon.
He said education is critical for social and economic growth of nation. He said illiteracy presents a daunting challenge to development and is the leading cause of poverty‚ violence and extremism.
The Prime Minister said “we must impart quality education to our youth so that they effectively take part in the national development.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of science and technical education in the development of the country adding it should also meet the demands of the market. He said alongside general education we should also lay emphasis on specialisms.
Paying rich tributes to the services of the college‚ he said it is also building the character of students to make them useful citizens.
On the occasion he announced 20 million rupees for the up gradation of college. He also announced one week holidays for the students of the college.
