Vehemently denouncing any Pak-US tacit understanding over the drones, a senior Pakistani official on Wednesday said that civilian deaths had proven these attacks as counterproductive to the international anti-terror efforts.
Responding to the Wall Street Journal report that the CIA tells Pakistan in advance about “broad areas” where it intends to take aim at suspected terrorists with drone strikes, the officials asking not to be named, said that drone killings in Pakistan’s tribal areas is politically counterproductive, kills large numbers of civilians and undermines respect for international law.
President Asif Ali Zardari in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly 67th session has said that drone strikes are counterproductive and has asked Washington to end the strikes on Pakistan’s tribal areas.
