The Supreme Court (SC) remarked that stern action needed to be initiated against tax evaders, and orders were issued to FBR to inform all revenue related departments in this regard.
These directives were issued by the apex court during the course of a hearing of NATO containers case on Tuesday. A three-member SC bench presided by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Chaudhry took up the case for hearing.
The CJ observed that Customs and other revenue departments were not affecting recovery. The court expressed dissatisfaction over the report presented.
Justice Khilji Arif remarked, “National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has to determine who is involved in the scandal.” Justice Jawad S Khawaja observed, “Around Rs 69 billion of the nation have been lost in this case. The court said that no leniency would be shown to tax evaders and recoveries be made from them. The court adjourned the hearing till October, 1.
