On the directives of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Asad Asharf Malik, a complainant got a refund of Rs 386,000 with mark-up, deposited for booking a flat in a scheme which was abandoned by Lyari Development Authority (LDA).
An official of the Ombudsman Secretariat here on Tuesday said that one Muhammad Afzal of Quetta complained to Ombudsman this year that he had deposited an amount of Rs. 295,000 in favour of Lyari Development Authority Karachi on account of booking a flat in the Beach Avenue Project Karachi in 1998.
It was further pointed out that the scheme was canceled and the amount deposited by the applicants was refunded to them but the Lyari Development Authority did not refund Afzal’s amount, despite repeated approaches, on the plea that his refund case was stuck up with the Finance Department of LDA.
The Provincial Ombudsman ordered enquiry into the case and directed LDA to submit detailed report of the case.
As a result of investigation by the Ombudsman Secretariat the LDA agreed to refund the amount to the complainant within two months.
The LDA as per commitment submitted a cheque of Rs 385,956 (including mark-up) in favor of complainant Muhammad Afzal which was handed over to complainant’s son Muhammad Aamir Aziz by Ombudsman Sindh Asad Ashraf Malik at a simple ceremony at Ombudsman Secretariat.
The complainant thanked the Ombudsman for redressing his long standing grievance.
