LAHORE – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has released the first tranche of $20 million to the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for the Gomal Zam Dam Project. The USAID had signed an agreement with WAPDA last month for providing $40 million to help complete the Gomal Zam Dam Project.
Had this financial assistance not been provided, construction work on the project would have virtually ground to a halt due to lack of funding through Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). The release of $20 million to WAPDA is a vital development towards the completion of Gomal Zam Dam Project. It is pertinent to mention that the project is at an advanced stageand is expected to be completed during 2011.
