Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan said on Thursday that the superior judiciary was working hard to provide inexpensive and speedy justice to all segments of the society in accordance with the constitution and religious obligation.
While addressing the inaugural ceremony of two newly constructed courtrooms for PHC Abbottabad bench, the chief justice said the courts would go to any extent to uphold the rule of law. He said the apex court had no personal grudges against anyone, adding that it was the prime responsibility of judges to decide cases purely on merit. “To provide speedy justice at local level, we have prepared a draft bill to set up mobile courts. The bill has been sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for passage through assembly,” he said, adding that 40 percent burden on the existing courts would be reduced with the introduction of proposed mobile courts.
Praising the role of lawyers to ensure the independence of judiciary, the PHC chief justice said that the lawyers had played a historic role during the movement for the restoration of judiciary in 2007. He said that the dignity and respect of the lawyers would be maintained. He also urged the lawyers’ community to play their due role in eradicating corruption from the society in general and from the judiciary in particular.
The chief justice said the Judicial Academy in Peshawar was imparting training to the lawyers and judges of the province, and that he was personally looking after the academy and ensuring that the lawyers and subordinate judges are being given equal chance of participation in the training courses.
