Arsalan case probe lowered to SI level

The probe into the Arsalan Iftikhar-Malik Riaz graft case appears to have been handed over to a sub-inspector of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The Supreme Court had directed NAB to carry out inquiry into the case, but a one-man commission under Dr Shoaib Suddle was later constituted with directions to all government functionaries to provide necessary assistance for timely completion of the report. The commission was given a month’s time for the completion of its report into the allegations of bribery leveled by Malik Riaz against Arsalan Iftikhar.
However, it has been learnt that Dr Shoaib Suddle has sought services of two officials of the FIA, one of a lower rank, on temporary basis to probe into the issue. A letter written by the Federal Tax Ombudsman Secretariat to the FIA director general disclosed the names of officers whose services had been sought – Director Law Muhammad Azam Khan and Sub-Inspector Imran Ali. The issuing authority of the letter is Owais Pirzada, secretary to the Federal Tax Ombudsman. Per services rules, government departments never specify the name of any officer whose services are required to carry out the investigations in such cases of high public importance. Often these services are sought from officers who have experience and knowledge in the relevant field. However, in this important case, the services of irrelevant officers have been sought, as the director law has no experience of investigations and the names of both officers have been clearly identified in the letter.

  2. Do not expect Arsalan will be punished for his crimes. Iftikhar and Suddle are like buddies. Justice does not appear on the priority list of Chaudhry Double PCO.
