The Sindh High Court (SHC) has upheld the verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that disqualified Waheeda Shah for misconduct.
It should be mentioned that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Waheeda Shah challenged her disqualification by the ECP, while a counter petition was also moved by the commission against Shah’s acquittal by a session court.
The EC disqualified Waheeda for two years for slapping a presiding officer Habiba Memon and other polling staff during the by-election on February 25 and declared the by-poll void. Shah challenged her disqualification from contesting by-poll to the provincial assembly’s constituency PS-53, Tando Mohammad Khan.
The court ordered the re-election in Waheeda Shah’s constituency. Her counsel Hyder Imam Rizvi said the SHC ruling will be challenged in the Supreme Court (SC).
