Efforts intensified to clear rain water from residential areas

Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Ahmed Bux Narejo said on Friday that draining out of the remaining rain water in low-lying areas had been intensified by raising the number of pumping machines up to 70 and hoped that the task would be completed within 24 hours.
On his surprise visits to different parts of the urban talukas to monitor the work in progress, he directed the WASA Hyderabad to identify and prepare a complete list of such drainage troubling pockets in all three urban talukas with their recommendations for permanent solution of the problems.
During the visits, he also interacted with residents of the area to get first hand information and suggestions from them.
Talking to the people, the commissioner said that it was for the first time in the history of Hyderabad that the rain water was being cleared from the urban areas within few hours.
Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Agha Shahnawaz Babar, Additional Commissioner Hyderabad Lal Dino Mangi and other officers from WASA also accompanied the commissioner.
Later on, the divisional commissioner Hyderabad also visited the on-going developing work in Hyderabad and directed the officers concerned not to compromise on the quality of work. He also warned that whosoever was found guilty would be taken to task.
Arrangements underway for second international children film festival: The Little Art group in collaboration with Teacher’s Resource Center, Karachi will hold the second Karachi International Children’s Film Festival from November 5 to 8 and from November 12 to 14 at Zulekhabai Auditorium, Rangoonwala Community Centre, the organizers said on Monday.
They said the festival was aimed at enhancing media literacy of young people, fostering children’s creativity and imagination by showcasing the very best in film-making for and by children and young people.
“The event is part of our efforts to nurture innovative arts education projects for children and young people in the country,” they said.
The Little Art Group that initiated one of its flagship projects as Lahore International Children’s Film Festival (LICFF) in 2008 and tested its outreach last year while taking it to Karachi and Islamabad will be holding the festival in six cities across Pakistan in 2012.
The festival is to be held in Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Karachi and Rawalpindi, all on different dates, and is expected to attract 80,000 children and young people this year with the celebrations of world cultures created for the children of all ages.
“Focus is that each and every city would be given a new look on the ways to entertain and educate the future generation, while experiencing a global perspective made especially for children and young people,” said the organizers.
They urged parents to bring their children to experience the magic of world cinema for children and young people to the festival.
