Omar Hayat Ajmal Khan, a Pakistani taxi driver, was awarded an appreciation certificate and a symbolic gift for his honesty by Dubai Police, Gulf News reported on Wednesday. A bag containing 123,700 Saudi riyals (Dh121,102) and gold jewellery was forgotten in his taxi. Khan said that he had taken a passenger from Al Riqqa in Dubai to Sharjah, and on his way back to Dubai he stopped at a petrol station to refuel. He said that he was going to clean the back seat when he noticed the bag and took it to Al Ghusais police station.
Lt Col Khalfan Al Muhairi said that the bag’s owner immediate reporting of the lost bag helped in the bag being returned to him within a short time. Colonel Khalfan Bin Suhail Al Muhairi, Deputy Director of the Al Ghusais police station, awarded Khan and said that this award comes within the framework of activating a partnership between the community and Dubai Police, as well as spreading the spirit of cooperation, in order to establish a secure and safe society.
