After finding the virus of dengue in three more people on Thursday, the number of dengue fever patients reached 86 across Punjab.
Officials of Punjab health department said three patients had been tested positive of the dengue fever and were admitted to Lahore’s Meo Hospital.
Some 86 affectees have so far been registered in Punjab amid ‘dengue emergency’ in the province following late monsoon rains that caused flash floods in Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming more than 100 lives in a week.
Dengue is one of the most widespread mosquito-borne viral diseases in the world, with WHO estimating that around half of the world’s population are currently at risk.
While infection usually causes flu-like symptoms, it can develop into a more serious form of the disease, known as severe dengue, which is a leading cause of severe illness and death among children in some Asian and Latin American countries.
