Parliamentary Committee for National Security Thursday expressed grave concern over UN Working Group on enforced or involuntary disappearances visit to Pakistan.
The committee summoned foreign minister, foreign secretary, interior minister or home secretary in next session to seek briefing from them on motives of UN working group visit to Pakistan and who allowed the group for undertaking visit to the country.
Committee held in camera meeting in parliament house under its chairman Mian Raza Rabbani.
Sources told Online members of committee expressed concern over UN working group visit to Pakistan. The members were of the view that Pakistan was a sovereign state and any interference in its internal affairs could not be tolerated. They stressed that explanation be sought from the respective ministries on this issue.
Giving final shape to the draft on proposed legislation regarding missing persons issue figured on the agenda of the committee meeting. However a little headway was made on this count.
Talking to media men on the conclusion of meeting Mian Raza Rabbani said committee had taken notice of UN working group visit and summoned foreign minister, foreign secretary, interior minister or interior secretary in next session to seek briefing on the objectives of the visit by UN working group. The committee also be informed who invited UN group to visit Pakistan, he added. Committee would meet next week, he pointed out.
Replying to a question he said committee was an independent and sovereign body and it takes its decision on its own freely. There is no pressure whatsoever from any side on it in evolving recommendations for legislation on missing persons issue and nor it accepts any pressure, he added.
