A controversial politician credited with launching Nepal’s republican movement died on Wednesday aged 77 after a career of protest marked by a series of deadly bomb blasts in the capital Kathmandu.
Ramraja Prasad Singh, who pushed for the abolition of monarchy during the autocratic Panchayat regime, was handed a death sentence — never carried out — for masterminding several explosions during a day of violence in 1985.
“He died due to multiple organ failure. He was suffering from Parkinson’s disease,” said KP Singh, director of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, in the capital.
Six people, including a lawmaker, died in the blasts in government offices, outside the royal palace and a luxury hotel.
But Singh’s sentence was repealed with the return of democracy in 1990 after he spent years on the run.
Despite the carnage, Singh was considered a hero by anti-royalists and the Maoist-led caretaker government announced he would be given state honours with a 13-cannon salute ahead of his cremation later on Wednesday.
Nepal’s 240-year-old Shah monarchy was abolished in 2008 after parliament voted for the country to become republican, one of the main demands of the 19-year Maoist insurgency which ended in 2006.

  1. Ram Raja Prasad: A Great traitor Died
    By Dirgha Raj Prasai

One of the great traitors Ram Raja Prasad Singh is died in 12 Sep.2012. Ram Raja has passed his whole life in Indian soil to create disturbances in Nepal. He was a terrorist who had bombarded in Narayanhiti Palace-1986 and Parliament house. At that time Ram Raja Prasad had killed many leaders and common people of Nepal and destroyed the basic infrastructures by the hint of Indian intelligence, always against Nepal. After 2007, the Maoist Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai by the hints of India had decided as a president candidate in the last election but he could not success. He was republican man because Indian leaders never want monarchy in Nepal. He is an only as a layman. He can't count as a honorable person. But, after his death, the pro-Indian government has decided to the traitor to give state honor as he fathered Republicanism in Nepal. After his death the government decided to the layman to honor him 13-gun (Top) salute. It is a great shame for all nationalist Nepalese. He was not revolutionary leader, but he is only a spy of India. Then why the Govt, has cremated to the Indian spy offering the state honors at Pashupati Aryaghat?

I hate the Baburam Bhattarai's government who has decided to give state honors to the great terrorist Ramraja Prasad Singh. Actually, Nepal has no threat from China in the north as it has always remained in favor of Nepal's sovereignty and independence. China does not support any kind of outside interference in Nepal. But Nepal has always been in awe from India's interference and plots. India never supports the political stability in Nepal. And then, it always tries to use such traitors late Ram Raja Prasad, the culprits- Baburam Bhattarai and Prachanda.

So, It is the right time for all the nationalist, democratic and progressive forces to come together to save this country from corruption, such traitors' activities and foreign interference. The pro-Indian government never is capable to solve all the people's problems. There should be conscious to save the continuity of Nepalese unity and nationality with the monarchy. Without monarchical democratic system Nepal can't adjust. So, we Nepalese people should decide the real path of politic what kinds of political system we want.
