The latest celeb who fell victim to a death hoax was actor Eddie Murphy, last month. It was claimed the star had died in a snowboarding accident in Switzerland. Explained in such detail, the report went as far as mentioning how Murphy lost control of his board, crashed into a tree, suffered critical injuries, was lifted by a ski patrol team, rushed to a local hospital, but had died instantly on impact. As the news spread like wildfire, the website, which had claimed the death, put up a disclaimer saying the hoax death.

Late last year, rumours surfaced that rocker Jon Bon Jovi was found dead in New Jersey during a world tour. Reports claimed that the singer was in a coma at a hotel and taken to a hospital, where he suffered cardiac arrest and died. Bon Jovi had to confirm he wasalive by posting a picture of himself, holding a sign, which read, “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.”

The teen star has the dubious distinction of being the subject of numerous false reports of his untimely death. Some of the most popular ones include being shot in a New York nightclub and overdosing on drugs. Earlier this year, in May, the singer was victim of yet another hoax after his death news became a trending topic worldwide.

In November last year, websites bumped off Will Smith by saying the actor died while filming a movie in New Zealand by falling more than 60 feet to his death. Another rumour said that Smith was driving when he lost control and flipped his car. Neither of the rumours turned out to be true as the actor was alive.

Kanye West
In 2009, Kanye West was reported dead after being involved in a car accident inLos Angeles. The story went as far as to say that West was killed, a second person sustained injuries, a third was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and a fourth was detained. West’s then girlfriend, Amber Rose, had to reassure fans saying, “This RIP Kanye West topic is not funny and not true!”

In mid 2009, Emma Watson was supposed to have died on the spot after being in a fatal car accident. The Harry Potter actress was said to be killed while being driven back to her hotel when a car collided with her vehicle. Her rep had to issue a statement saying the actress was at home, safe and sound, at the time of the alleged incident.

Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus supposedly left for her heavenly abode in September 2009 after reports began circulating that the teen star had succumbed to her injuries during a surgery after being in a car accident. Subsequent reports exposed the news as hoax with Miley being at her own performance on the night of the accident.

Just last month, Taylor Swift was declared dead after a fake Twitter account, trying to pass itself off as being associated with a news channel, made the claims. The 22-year-old singer was said to be found dead at her home, which was later proven untrue.
