PPP senator Aitzaz Ahsan said that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has no other option than to write to Swiss authorities or get disqualified.
Talking to a private TV channel Saturday, Aitzaz Ahsan said that he never advised his party not to follow court orders, adding that Gilani’s acceptance of sentence was a clear sign of complying with court orders though the sentencing was wrong.
He said that the current PM will also be disqualified if he doesn’t write to Swiss authorities for the re-opening of cases against President Zardari.
However, he maintained that PPP will not write to Swiss authorities, adding that no case could be opened in Swiss courts till Zardari enjoys presidency.
Referring to the political engagements of president Zardari in presidency, Aitzaz Ahsan questioned if such meetings weren’t held in White House. He asked if Obama wasn’t holding meetings with political parties in White House.

  1. This, is after Chaudhary Sahib defended Gilani for not writing the same letter!

The meetings in White House are political because the U.S. President is the Head of Government, not so in Pakistan. According to Pakistan Constitution, the President is merely the Head of State and not the Government. Once elected President, he should leave all politics at the door and be truly neutral.

    • Where jungle law prevails, such arguments don't hold good. Even the superior courts have failed to restrain him from political activities in the Presidency. The question of legalities has disappeared in Pakistan where so-called respectable lawyers like Aitzaz think that they can interpret the law any way that suits them, and can also change their stance whenever they require together with the criticism of courts decisions, if unfavorable.

    • In a F**U**C**K**E**D failed state every thing is posible. For all practical purposes there is no government. In fact Pakistan should not be even recognized as a country. There is no rule of law, no human value. It is just a dysfunctional soceity and has collapsed completely.

  2. Unfortunately, once a very dignified Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan has lost his creditably and respect in front of this nation.

  3. This guy is the AG of Pakistan,he should lead by example regardless of what the CJ or the PM demand,he is suppose to uphold the law, stay neutral, but instead,he continues to show favor towards PPP,he is a disgraceful,2 timer. He knew all along about the letter issues and how the government did'nt stand a chance nor they had any choice in writing the letters.

  4. What about this politicized judiciary, eunuchs of the society will go silent there, they r only here for PPP bashing

  5. Zardari-haters, for genuine reasons or personal vendetta, had been predicting that he would not spend New Year’s Eve in the Presidency. Making that a starting point for the PPP government to get squashed or emasculated, our fortune-tellers have been projecting different scenarios. This has not happened and the PPP government, along with President Zardari, is still in place. Media pundits have been forecasting on the basis of their past experiences when, apparently, the overthrow or demise of the ruler at the top, resulted in a total overhaul or change of the system. But in current scenario any move to dislodge incumbent stake holders of Govt would open a new chapter of clash. However President Zardari or the PPP government is mandated by masses for the five years, could be sent packing only by an outright military takeover, although some forces are using Judiciary instead of military at this point. It might also be a wise tactics to create situation by using Judiciary, so that military top brass forced to crush the democratic Govt under its boots. In fact this situation does augur well neither for PPP and democracy nor for Judiciary. Judiciary must avoid the clash if does want to keep its respect in minds and hearts of people.
