The Supreme Court on Friday passed an interim order while hearing the Balochistan law and order case, summoning the interior and defense secretaries today (Saturday) along with the Frontier Corps commandant for Dera Bugti. The three-judge bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja declared the provincial government and FC’s report relating to the missing persons unsatisfactory, directing FC IG Obaidullah Khattak to present the FC Dera Bugti commandant along with missing person Kahu Bugti in court today (Saturday).
The interim order said action should be initiated against all vehicles plying roads in Quetta illegally. All unnecessary rahdaris given to intelligence agencies be revoked, it added. In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said people carrying were roaming freely on the Raisani Road in Quetta and directed the civil as well as security authorities to go and disarm the people loitering about freely.
He said incidents of kidnappings for ransom still continued, targeted killing had not stopped and the wave of people going missing persisted, showing that the result had been zero. Justice Jawwad S Khawja said that two or three cases were such that they could hamper the dignity of institutions. At this juncture, the Balochistan chief secretary sought additional time to produce positive results. However, Chief Justice Iftikhar reiterated that the bench had directed that missing persons be produced, adding that the provincial government had failed to improve the security situation. The CJ also inquired about the FC Dera Bugti commandant. The counsel for FC said the official had been on leave for 15 days. The court ordered that the leave be cancelled and he be presented before the bench today (Saturday). The CJ said illegal vehicles and arms were the root-cause of deteriorating law and order in Balochistan, ordering that FIRs be lodged against people from whom illegal vehicles were recovered. The CJ said another police officer had been killed in Quetta today and instead of returning of normalcy, the situation in Balochistan had only worsened.
