The city once again witnessed deteriorating law and order situation as targeted killings continued and eight people lost their lives on Wednesday.
As a result of firing, two policemen including an Assistant Sub Inspector Ghafoor Abbasi were killed in the city’s Ajmer Nagri area. After the attack, the assailants fled from the scene while police seized their motorcycle and pistol. ASI Ghafoor Abbasi was posted in Manghopir police station. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, a man and his son were gunned down over a matrimonial issue in Baldia Town. Another man who got injured in firing in Nazimabad succumbed to his injuries today.
Also, two tortured bodies were found from Qayyumabad and Ittehad Town while two persons were injured in firing in New Karachi and Lyari.
An unknown person opened fire in the city’s Napier area, killing one person. One person was also killed in the city’s New Karachi area due to firing.
At least three people were injured in the areas of Landhi, Moach Goth, and Jahangir Road respectively in firing by unknown miscreants.
Two persons were also injured in an explosion in Manghopir.
Meanwhile, 15 passengers were injured as a speedy coach overturned at Tower area of the city, police said.
According to details, the incident occurred when a speedy passenger coach collided with an electricity pole and overturned. As a result, 15 persons were injured.
After the incident, rescue teams and police reached on the site and shifted the injured to near-by hospital.
Hospital sources told media that few of the passengers were in a critical condition.
Police arrest 15 accused in last 24 hours: The Karachi police in their on-going drive against criminals arrested 15 accused during the past 24 hours.
A police statement on Wednesday said that those arrested included five absconders. It said that two gangs of alleged criminals were busted during the period in four encounters of the police with alleged criminals.
In all, eight pistols and a dagger recovered from the possession of the accused, the police statement further pointed out.
Commissioner reviews development work: Larkana Division Commissioner Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnego has directed officials of works and services and other departments to realize their responsibilities and to enhance their efforts to complete the development schemes in due time and ensure the quality of the work without any delay and warned that any kind of slackness in this regard will not be tolerated.
This he said while presiding over a high-level meeting of officers of different nation building departments to review the progress of development schemes in Larkana Division in various sectors at his office here on Tuesday.
The commissioner directed the EDO Works & Services Larkana to complete the development schemes under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) in time.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Assadullah Abro briefed the meeting regarding the progress of development schemes in detail. The director education informed the meeting that 70 units in education department have been completed and handed over to the education department.
