LAHORE – Politicians belonging to various political parties gave a mixed response over President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani’s decision to dissolve the federal cabinet. President Zardari’s Punjab Coordinator Naveed Chaudhry welcomed the decision saying that it was a positive move.
He predicted that the decision would increase the party’s efficiency and said that the change would be brought according to the 18th Constitutional Amendment. The PPP leader said that the final decision would be taken after consulting collation partners and if anyone is not performing well he should be removed.
All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said that the decision would not make any difference. He said that a difference would be made if new ministers were appointed but the cabinet follows the principal of quantity instead of quality. Fawad said that nothing is expected from new comers, as the government has forced the public to have no hopes from it. He said that a change would only come if top rankers of the government are replaced.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the decision has been welcomed by the PML-N as this change is reflection of the PML-N’s 10-point agenda. He said that any modification in larger interest of democracy is always welcomed and the PML-N believes that anyone could claim the idea of reducing the cabinet size.
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Kamil Ali Agha called all decisions of the PPP “eye washers”. He said that if old individuals are not changed with a better and competent team, nothing would change. Agha said that all non-development expenditure be minimised and development expenditure be increased. The PML-Q leader said that real face of this change would be unveiled when the PPP nominates its new members.
He said that intentions of the PPP would be clear after its actions. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary Liaqat Baloch said that the PPP is currently going through many administrative problems. He said that by taking this step, the PPP would fall into more dilemmas.
