CM chairs meeting about Sindh Medical University

Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Syed Qaim Ali on Monday presided a high level meeting regarding problems and issues of Sindh Medical University at the CM House. Qaim underlined the need to meet the challenges of higher education, professional dignity, competition and adoption of latest knowledge, so as to bring better results in medical education, a statement issued by the CM House said. He said that the summary of renaming of “Jinnah Sindh Medical University” had been approved.
The CM said that president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari had directed to raise the status of Sindh Medical College to university level.
“We want to see this institution as a prestigious and quality oriented institution, as the Dow Medical University, founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,” he said.
Regarding criticism by certain elements, the Chief Minister Sindh made it clear that there would be no bar or hindrance on applying for admission and any one would be eligible to apply from any part of the province.
He assured that the provincial government would resolve administrative, legal and financial issues of the newly elevated medical university.
Earlier, it was informed that as per PMDC Rules and requirements, it was compulsory to have a full fledged hospital affiliated with the University, and the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) had also been made part of the varsity.
The meeting was attended among others by Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq, Sindh Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Saleem Jan, Professor Tariq Rafi, Dr Javed Suleman, Dr Humayon Bashir, Dr Qaisar Sajjad, Etrat Rizvi, Dr Azam Khan, Prof Saeed Akhtar, Dr Shahabullah Khan, Dr Sameer Qureshi, Principal Secretary to CM Siddique Memon, and Secretary Law Syed Ghulam Nabi Shah.
