Australia second team to play 800 one-day matches

Australia became only the second team after India to play 800 or more One-day Internationals. The second match of the three-match series against Pakistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Friday night (August 31) was the 800th ODI match for the third time World Champions.
Australia who played first ever one-day international against England at Melbourne on January 5, 1971, took 41 years and 239 days to reach this milestone. They have won 492, lost 273, tied nine and abandoned 26 in 800 one day matches played sofar.
India who played 809 one day internantionals was the first team to play 800 or more one day internationals. India’s 800th match was against Australia at Sydney on February 26, 2012.
The World Champions who played their first eve one day international match against England at Leeds on July 13,1974, took 37 years and 229 days to reach this milestone.
India have won 401, lost 367, tied six and abandoned 35 matches in 809 one day internationals played sofar.
The seven-wicket win was Pakistan’s fourth by a margin of seven or more wickets against Australia in one day internationals. Two of these have come in matches played in Abu Dhabi.
The target of 249 was the fifth-highest chased by Pakistan against Australia and the second-highest at Abu Dhabi. The highest they have chased against Australia is 274 in 49.5 overs at Perth on January 2, 1987.
The number of balls remaining after the win (38) is the third-highest for a successful chase of a 240-plus target against Australia. The highest is 66 balls in Pakistan’s nine-wicket win at Rawalpindi on October 22 1994.
Nasir Jamshed (97) became only the fourth Pakistan batsman to be dismissed in the nineties against Australia. The last Pakistan batsman to be dismissed in the nineties against Australia was Mohammad Yousuf at Karachi on November 6, 1998.
Saeed Ajmal’s 4 for 32 was his second-best bowling performance in one day internatioanls after five for 43 against England at Abu Dhabi on February 13,2012and his best against Australia. His previous best against Australia was three for 30 in the first match of the series at Sharjah on August 28,2012. Saeed Ajmal’s top three bowling performances in one day internationals have come in Abu Dhabi.
Saeed Ajmal’s 4 for 32 was also fourth on the list of best bowling performances by Pakistan spinners against Australia. Shahid Afridi is on top with his 6 for 38 in Dubai on April 22, 2009.
The 101-run stand between Azhar Ali and Jamshed was the fifth-highest second-wicket stand for Pakistan against Australia one day internationals.
Nasir Jamshed received his second man of the match award in 18 one day international matches. It was his first such award in third match against Australia.
