Security has been beefed up in Punjab after the ministry of Interior dispatched letters to RPOs on Friday, warning them about the possibility of a terror attack in major cities of Punjab amidst reports that at least 18 members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had entered the province.
In a related development, the federal capital police, during a search operation in various sectors rounded up around 51 suspects while Afghan terrorists were also netted by the police in Wah Cantt.
According to the letters, senior civil and military officers may be targeted in attacks and security has been ordered to be put at high alert
The police arrested 51 suspects in search operations in different areas of Islamabad whereas three suspected Afghan terrorists were arrested from a graveyard in Wah Cantt, carrying explosive materials and suicide belts.
According to the police, a search operation was initiated in Wah Cantt graveyard the previous night on a tip-off, where three suspects were arrested and 2.5kg of explosives, two detonators, one hand grenade and two suicide belts were recovered.
The police said that an investigation had been initiated after registering a case and suspects will be presented in a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) to obtain a remand.
