Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday said Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan was trying to malign the PPP leadership to hide the Punjab government’s poor performance.
In a statement, Kaira said the opposition leader had even forgotten political ethics to please his masters. He said the PML-N government in Punjab had lost the support of the electorate because of its poor governance as exposed by its former chief minister Dost Muhammad Khosa. “In frustration, the opposition leader is using derogatory language,” he added. Kaira said Nisar had tried to present himself as a reformer but the nation knew that a person groomed by dictator General Ziaul Haq could not become a democrat.
The minister said Nisar leveled baseless corruption allegations against journalists, but when he was taken to task by the media, he started maligning the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership. He said if the opposition leader had any proof, he should make it public. “Everybody knows that only secret agencies have equipment to record such conversation and Nisar should inform the nation which agency he is working for and who provided him such information,” he added. Kaira said Nisar’s allegations of corruption and bribery against media were totally baseless and his objective was to defame the media and the PPP leadership, but the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would not achieve its goal.
