Youth Sports Festival gaining momentum

The Punjab Youth Sports Festival 2012 is gaining momentum with people of different walks of life have started to take interest in the sports events that started at Neighborhood and Village level among 55200 Sports and Youth Development Councils in the province of Punjab.
In Lahore’s Shalimar Town Union Council 15, cricket matches were played between Block 16 and 11 which was won by the later by 15 runs when Block 16 was bowled out for 85 runs. In the other match, Block 16 beat Block 12 by 28 runs. The winners piled up 72 runs. In UC 16 of Shalimar Town Block 6’s Shah Mir beat Amer of Block 3 in badminton with a score of 11-6, 11-7. In billiard of the same UC Blk 6 beat 16 by 2-0 while in arm wrestling Mohammad Amjad beat Shah Mir.
In Gulberg Town UC 76 Mohammad Shah Rukh and Kaleem beat Mohammad Yousuf and Ahmed Ali in badminton doubles 20-16, 20-17 and later the same pair beat UMair and Usama in straight games of 20-7, 20-10.
In Lahore alone the events are scattered around more than 50 venues and are being participated by around 140 union councils of Sports and Youth Development Councils.
The events also started throughout the Punjab province and in Faisalabad alone 212 competitions were conducted. In Layalpur Town, eight cricket matches were held, 14 competitions of billiard were conducted, 24 persons got involved in arm wrestling. In Madina Town, 11 cricket matches were decided and six at Iqbal Town, 18 arms wrestling contested were held, three matches of cricket were held at Jinnah Town and at Jaranwala Town 35 events of athletics were decided. Similarly at Sumandari two cricket matches were played, three arms wrestling games were held at Tandlianwala and 15 at Chak Jamro. At the same place 15 events of athletics were held and the same numbers of badminton were also decided. Overall, around 221 persons contested in 17 different events.
In the other categories of general public, at union council 8 Asad Ullahpur two naat khani competitions were held and the winner was Mohammad Qamar. Similarly in qirat, Tayyab Raza was declared the best.
Similarly, in UC 36, 37, 46, 47, 48, 57 and 59 competitions in cricket athletics, arm wrestling were conducted. In Jaranwala’s UC 10, 156 competitions were held among 890 blocks in which around 614 players participated.
The first phase of the neighbourhood and village level will conclude on September 6 and will be followed by Union Council level.
