Despite formation of vigilance committees by the district administration to check and control the transport fares during Eid, the commuters faced great hardships in acquiring seats on fixed fares and almost all of them returned to their destinations by hiring seats at higher rates in coaches on the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Great rush of commuters were witnessed at the bus terminals on Wednesday, where they were found busy in hiring seats for Karachi to rejoin their duties.
It may be of relevance to mention here that thousands of the citizens of Hyderabad district are working in various public and private sectors organizations in Karachi and they came to Hyderabad on the night of August 17, 2012 to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their relatives. After five days of rejoicing, they started rushing back towards Karachi to rejoin their duties on August 23.
However, taking advantage of the situation, as is the norm every year, the transport owners started selling the seats on the rates of their demand.
Though the deputy commissioner Hyderabad had formed six vigilance committees with representatives of the revenue department, regional transport authority and the police, the commuters got no relief and could only acquire seats in black.
