After a two-and-a-half-month delay, National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mira on Thursday constituted an incomplete commission for the creation of new provinces in Punjab. The speaker, who is currently in the United States for a minor surgery, constituted the commission in pursuance of the message received from the president and authorization by the National Assembly on July 11, 2012.
The president had actually sent the message on May 30. Despite the long delay, the speaker could gather names of only 12 members of the commission, while two members of the Punjab Assembly are yet to be nominated, according to a notification issued by the National Assembly Secretariat. “Two members of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab would be included as and when their nominations are received from the Speaker Provincial Assembly, Punjab,” added the notification.
The commission comprises of Senators Farahatullah Babar, Sughra Imam, Mohammad Adeel, Kamil Ali Agha, Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, and MNAs Arif Aziz Sheikh, Jamshaid Ahmad Dasti, Ali Musa Gilani, Tehmina Daultana, Chaudhry Saud Majeed and Farooq Sattar.
