The Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan, Mohammad Omar Dawoodzai, denied claims that there had been a meeting between an Afghan delegation and jailed Taliban leader, Mullah Baradar.
“No, there has not been meeting between the Afghan delegation and Mullah Baradar since I have been here,” Dawoodzai told Afghan media.
This comes as Afghanistan’s National Security Advisor, Rangin Dadfar Spanat, and newly-appointed US ambassador to Afghanistan James Cunningham confirmed a meeting between the Afghan delegation and Mullah Baradar, who is being held in Pakistan.
Dawoodzai confirmed that negotiations have resumed between the United States, Afghanistan and Taliban leadership.
Mullah Ghani Baradar was the Taliban’s number two in command and the head of the Pakistan-based Quetta council. His role in the Afghan peace negotiations is considered to be vital.
