Balochistan committee briefs cabinet

The special ministerial committee on Balochistan headed by Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar submitted its preliminary report to the federal cabinet in a meeting here on Wednesday.
The cabinet was meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
The Balochistan committee, comprising Law Minister Farooq H. Naek, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Jamali and Minister for Postal Services Sardar Omar Gorgej, had been working on ‘fast track basis’ which was evident from the fact that since its formation on July 25, it had held 10 meetings in Islamabad, Karachi and Quetta.
According to media reports, the committee had also held meetings with Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani in Islamabad and Governor Zulfiqar Magsi in Karachi.
Moreover, during today’s cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ashraf said that the government should begin preparing for the upcoming general elections, adding that, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) believed in the holding of free, fair and transparent elections.
The prime minister moreover said that resolving the energy crisis in the country was the government’s number one priority and that it would be worked out through employing all means and resources available to the government.
The cabinet also approved the recommendations made by the special ministerial committee on the energy crisis to take steps in order to alleviate the power crisis.
