The two largest water reservoirs in the country Tarbela and Mangla dams may not reach their maximum water level leading to worsening of the power crisis and a hindrance in the growing of crops.
A lack of rain is being attributed to the low water levels at these dams. These dams also receive water from snow which melts on the mountains of the northern areas but that has also drastically decreased this year.
According to predictions the maximum water level at Tarbela dam this year will be 1,510 feet while it is expected to be 1,180 feet at Mangla dam.
With such low water levels, farmers will have difficulty in growing their crops leading to a potential food shortage. The power crisis will also worsen leading to an increase in the hours of loadshedding throughout the country.
