The sub-committee of the federal cabinet on Balochistan on Saturday had extensive discussions with representatives of political parties‚ bar associations and traders’ association on historical perspective of the situation and ground realities in the restive province, and will present its interim report to the federal cabinet on August 15. Addressing a press conference, Syed Naveed Qamar, chairman of the sub-committee, said, “We had free, frank exchange of views on law and order situation in the province‚ issue of missing persons, implementation status of National Finance Commission NFC‚ Aghaz Haqooq-e-Balochistan and job opportunities especially for educated youth.”
He said the committee members would meet more people in order to formulate concrete recommendations for submission to the federal cabinet. The minister said the PPP government took number of initiatives but acknowledged these were not enough to take care of the sense of deprivation among the people spreading over 60 years. More needs to be done to address challenges facing the province, he observed. Qamar said they also discussed the role of FC and intelligence personnel in the province and the need for more coordination among them.
