Punjab Minister for Education Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman on Saturday announced that Rs 4 billion will be spent on providing necessary facilities to primary and middle schools and another Rs 5.2 billion will be spent on upgrading girls’ middle schools in the province.
Talking to a delegation of students, the minister said that the government is providing modern educational facilities to children and 80,000 children have switched from government schools from private schools.
He added that 180,000 teachers are providing education to children in the province and in each classroom there is 1:31 teacher-student ratio in each class room and after fresh recruitments, it will change to 1:29 teacher-student ratio.
The education minister said that curriculum authority will be established in the province and added that 262,500 students of ages between 4 to 15 years are getting education at informal basic education schools.
He said that the government is extending full cooperation and assistance to private educational educations.
He mentioned that Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) is providing grants and scholarships to private institutions and students.
Moreover, he said that government schools were given the status of English medium schools last year and government also launched a campaign for primary enrolment and 310,000 children have been given admission in the schools so far as a result of this campaign.
