Sindhi nationalists unite against Mohajir Sooba movement

Several Sindhi nationalist groups are likely to announce an alliance against the formation of a new Mohajir province after Eid-ul Fitr, Pakistan Today has learnt.
A group of Sindhi nationalists, who claimed to be the followers of GM Syed, has decided to launch the alliance few months ago to resist the territorial division of Sindh.
To counter the active Mohajir Sooba Tehreek (MST), Sindhi nationalist groups have generated a census to launch an alliance of like-minded nationalists to resist the division of the province on ethnic or linguistic lines.
In this regard, the first meeting of eight Sindhi nationalist groups was held in Karachi in which leaders of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Bashir Qureshi Group, JSQM Arisar Group, Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM), JSM Dr Barkat Group, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Tehreek (JSQT), Jeay Sindh Qoum Pasand Party (JSQPP) and Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST) participated. The meeting reviewed the ongoing movement for a separate province for Urdu-speaking settlers in urban parts of Sindh.
The meeting was presided over by JST Chairman Dr Safdar Sarki. During the meeting, the participating groups decided to form an alliance to attract like-minded nationalists to join them against the possible division of Sindh on ethno-linguistic basis. The nationalists, in principle, decided to follow the ideas of GM Syed to counter Sindh’s division.
The nationalists also vowed to spread the message of peace and solidarity among the people of Sindh. The meeting was postponed until next sitting. During the next meeting, other peaceful Sindhi nationalist groups would be invited to form an alliance to prevent bloodshed and the division of Sindh.
Talking to Pakistan Today, a senior Sindhi nationalist leader, who wished not to be named, said that all arrangements to form an alliance had been complete. He said the alliance would be formally announced after Eid-ul Fitr.
