NATO supplies restored after 12 days

After a break of around 12 days, supplies to NATO troops camping across the border in Afghanistan was restored through historical Khyber Pass from Saturday.
The officials and transporters confirming restoration of such supplies said that seven trollers (containers) reached from Peshawar into Torkham amidst tight security. Later the vehicles proceeded towards Afghanistan after clearance of documents from various government functionaries.
The seven containers were escorted by contingents of police in Peshawar territory whereas from Takht Beg check post till Torkham, personnel of traditional Khasadar forces provided security to these vehicles and its occupants. No any untoward incident occurred due to tight security.
It may be mentioned here that supplies to NATO via Torkham-Khyber Agency got suspended when some militants attacked three containers at Jamrud Khyber Agency on July 24. One person was killed and another got injured in such attack. Later, on the request of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa government, a strategy was evolved for ensuring due safety of these trucks and its occupants.
According to transporters more that 3,000 trucks and trollars are engaged in supplies to NATO troops, scattered in connection with war on terror throughout Afghanistan. Around 350 trucks and stranded containers are loaded since previous November. These stranded vehicles are parked in various places right from Karachi till Peshawar.
