GUJRANWALA – The protest of lessees has forced Gujranwala Development Authority DG Hakim Ali Doultana not to terminate agreements of lease. DCO Barrister Nabil Ahmad Awan had directed the GDA DG to seal all its properties at GDA Plaza by terminating all lease agreements and relocate new agreements in accordance with the Local Government Act 2007.
Though the GDA issued notices to all the lessees to vacate the shops and offices till January 31, but they started agitation, forcing the DG not to sign termination of agreements. It was being expected that a new strategy would be chalked out in the next few days. The lessees are of the view that they have paid huge amounts to the GDA for lease agreements and in the presence of the provision of 25% hike in the rents after every three years, there was no need to terminate the agreements and new auctions of their established offices and shops.
72 PROPERTIES SEALED: The Excise and Taxation Department has sealed 72 properties as their owners failed to deposit property tax in different localities of the city.
ETO Kausar Pervez Butt and Abdul Waris said notices had already been served on all the defaulters.
CANCER AWARENESS WALK ON 4TH: Gujranwala Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Radio Therapy (GINUM), a subsidiary body of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, will host a walk on International Cancer Awareness Day on February 4. The walk will start from the DHQ hospital at 10am and end at Jinnah Stadium. GINUM Director Dr Sohail Murad will deliver a lecture on the disease.
SECURITY MEASURES REVIEWED: The Gujranwala Division Commissioner has directed all security agencies to adopt foolproof security measures at all sensitive points as well as for Chinese citizens working in the division. Presiding over a meeting, the commissioner was briefed about the security plans. RPO Tariq Masood Yasin, CPO Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, DCO Nabil Awan and other officers participated in the meeting.
Gas cut shuts 100 industrial units: Over 330 CNG filling stations and more than 1100 industrial units have been closed due to gas cut in the region. According to a Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) spokesman, gas supply will remain suspended on Monday and Tuesday and will be restored at 6am on Wednesday.
