Muhammad Imran and Sohail Abbas’s drag-flicks saw Pakistan pick up their second win in Olympics hockey, leading Argentina to a second successive defeat.
Despite a decent tempo of the match, there was little goal action to go around. Muhammad Imran fired the first shot from a penalty corner in 29th minute, which ensured Pakistan ended the first half on top.
In the second half, Sohail Abbas’s first effort from the resulting corner was brilliantly saved by Gonzalo Peillat, but within minutes offered him a chance through another penalty corner that resulted in second goal of the match in the 43rd minute, leading Pakistan team to victory.
Pakistan now faces a potentially huge game against hosts Great Britain on Friday at 20:00 PST, while Argentina will face Australia, needing a win to keep alive their semi-final hopes.
