Tall claims by the minister for Pakistan Railways and the federal government to make railways swift and a satisfactory means of traveling fell flat, as prolonged delays in the arrival and departure of trains continued to irk passengers in the holy month of Ramadan.
Hundreds, of people including women, children, patients and fasting people had to wait for hours at the various railway stations in Lahore, Karachi and Quetta. People waiting at various railway stations had to face severe hardships due to the intense hot weather and lack of basic facilities.
The Allama Iqbal Express traveling from Karachi to Lahore, reached the station at 4pm after a five hour delay; the Karachi Express from Karachi to Lahore, was delayed for two hours and reached the station at 1:30pm; the Awam Express from Karachi to Lahore was delayed for more than three hours; while the Jaffar Express traveling from Quetta to Lahore arrived at the railway station at 2pm after a four hour delay.
