Works of writer Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi commemorated

KARACHI – The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) held the first event at the newly-established ‘Gosha-e-Yousufi’ on Monday to commemorate the works of legendary writer Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, who recently won an Engro Excellence Award 2010.
A large number of people from all walks of life actively participated in the programme, which was hosted by Huma Bukhari. The Dow University of Health Sciences established the Gosha-e-Yousufi on the ground floor of its Learning Resources Centre at Ojha Campus, where a floor has also been designated for general pubic.
Gosha-e-Yousufi comprises a hall and a separate designated room for Yousufi’s personal meetings. The place has wall mounts of abstracts from his books and point of views from various literary figures, besides portraits and photographs of the writer.
In the welcome address, National Institute of Liver and Gastro-Intestinal Diseases (NILGID) Director and chief organiser of the event, Prof Rana Qamar Masood informed the participants about the concept of Gosha-e-Yousufi and the available facilities provided by the DUHS as its contribution towards literature.
She said the younger generation needs to be motivated for developing a reading culture. DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan briefed the audience on the developments at the Dow University during the last six years and the healthcare services provided by the university.
Later, Barkat Ali Rajput, Arshad Ali, Hasan Fatima, Prof Innayatullah Khan and Zohra Nigar narrated a few scripts from Yousufi’s books. Yousufi also took the dais for more than an hour as the auditorium, full to its capacity, remained spellbound and amused during the address by the legendary writer.
PharmEvo Managing Director Dr Haroon Qasim congratulated the DUHS vice chancellor and his team for their progress, commitment and motivation for the promotion of literary activities. In the end, the university vice chancellor also presented DUHS memento to Yousufi and comparer Bukhari.
