Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek has said that the president, the prime minister and the ministers enjoy constitutional immunity and that cannot be challenged. Talking to media at the Sindh High Court on Saturday, the law minister said that there is nothing unconstitutional in the contempt of court bill and that judicial decisions in that regard cannot be enforced against the president and the prime minister. He said the government accords due honour and respect to the judiciary and was not interested in curtailing its powers.
He also said that the government does not want a confrontation between institutions, and if each institution were to work within its ambit, democracy would be strengthened. He said that if the courts agree, the government was ready for functioning of the courts in the evening for speedy disposal of cases. He said shortage of female judges was being felt direly in the country. He said bar councils and ministry of law and justice should also be given authority to propose names for the judges. However, he said, for this to happen, amendments would have to be made in the relevant law.

    • Come next election and be ready for crying another 5 yrs. It s ironic that those who did not want to let Zardari govern even for 3 months and consistently forecast his ouster continuously all thru 4 and half yrs are now predicting postponement of elections for one more year. This is the result of blind and brainless hate which cud not even let them to formulate a coherent and solid policy to remove Zardari.

      • @Kamil. Are you smoking something that you bought from musa gillani? Read my comment stupid. All I asked was for a jiayala to buy Farooq Naek a better wig. He looks like he is wearing a wet mop on his head. Where you brought zardari into this conversation is beyond me. By the way, can you name a few things that zardari has done that have been good for the country and its people? And try not to give an answer that would show your ignorance.

  1. Isn't this man a close relation of Kh Asif of PML N?This statement then has the approval of PML N.

  2. The fact is, according to our constitution the President has the immunity from prosecution as long as he is in the office. Besides, the international laws protect a sitting head of the state. The Justices should accept it and stop pushing the country to the brink creating situation for unacceptable outcome. The Supreme Court and the President’s adversaries should wait until he leaves the office and prosecute him for all his unlawful acts. One should think that why such a rejuvenated law has been introduced by the legislature? It is because of overstepping of court, they ousted a PM who was unanimously elected by NA .These judges accepted PCO and allowed the dictator to amend the constitution and now they proclaim to be the saviors of constitution, who gave them this status of self-pardon??? … No body is clean here … those who are disqualifying the elected people are already disqualified …
