ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Monday disposed of the murder case of former attorney general for Pakistan, Muhammad Sardar Khan after it was informed that the main accused had been taken into custody in Dubai on the request of the Islamabad police and legal process was underway for his extradition.
Appearing on notice before a four-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, Interior Secretary Ch Qamaruzzaman said the main accused, Roohullah, had been arrested in Dubai through Interpol and legal process was underway to bring him back. He also presented a report before the court.
He said first the main accused had fled to Afghanistan on fake travel documents; from there he managed to escape to Dubai. To a court query, he said there were four accused nominated in the FIR, including the main accused, adding two of them had also been arrested. In pursuance of the Supreme Court orders, he said a committee had been formed comprising DIGs of Islamabad and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), SP Investigation KP Waqar Ahmed Butt and SP Operation Islamabad Tahir Alam had been included in it.
Muhammad Sardar Khan, 74, a native of Peshawar, was killed in an ambush at Ibne Seena Road, Sector G-11/2, on February 3, 2010. Five people were nominated in the murder case with Roohullah being the main accused. Roohullah allegedly plotted the murder after Khan, the counsel for his opponent, turned down his offer of money for losing the case he was fighting against Peshawar Development Authority in the Peshawar High Court.
