The Supreme Court resumed hearing the petitions filed against the contempt law on Friday, according to a private TV channel.
A five-member bench of the court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Tassaduq Jilani was hearing the petitions.
Chief Justice said that the judiciary wanted the country to continue with the current democratic system.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja said that the parliamentarians were the public servants and were paid with taxpayer’s money, adding that the court had been delegated with implementation of the Constitution.
Earlier on Thursday, the court heard parliamentary records of the speeches made during contempt law passage.
